A baby quilt

One of my co-workers is having a baby, which gave me the perfect excuse to make a baby quilt. I used Camille Rosecky's design for the "Little Man" quilt. But where hers was done in soft browns and beige-colored fabrics, my is done in almost blinding shades of green. And, I paired that brightness with vintage floral sheets that are so soft.

I have one complaint though -- working with gingham is not fun. It tends to veer off and look crooked no matter how hard I tried to keep it in line with pins. Frustrating.

Here's the finished product. I made mine square because it's destined to be a play-mat quilt -- I'm not really sure of the color scheme the mom is going to pick out for the nursery, but play-mats can go wherever.

Here's just a few project details -- I hand-quilted it using perle cotton. The back-side doesn't thrill me because it looks a bit sloppy thanks to my imperfect stitching. But, that can't be helped I'm told. The binding is also from a vintage sheet. I think that's it. I'm just hoping it gets lots of happy playtime use.

Oh, a play mat is such a great thing. I like your colors better than the browns used in the pattern. It's beautiful. And, girl, have fun quilting because I know that the crochet bug will bite you sooner or later. ;)

I think it's great! I love the way you hand quilted it. I can't get over how quickly you can make these quilts. I haven't finished one yet.

I have the same problem with the quilts that I have hand stitched. My grandmother's quilts looked almost as good on the back as they did on the front. Ugh... I love the bright green colors and you are sooo right about gingham!

It turned out wonderfully! I like the bright green and you're right it can go anywhere. I always kept one in my vehicle for when we were out and about, one in the stroller and one in just about every room of the house! Hope your new year is off to a wonderful start! Happy Days to you!
